It is a good idea to keep a backup of your CAL assignments just in case any corruption or loss of information might occur. This is especially true if the server license has so many CALs that manually re-assigning them might be unreasonable.

The CAL assignment information is stored in a series of files. This article explains which files are necessary to backup.

For instruction on how to restore PGO files, please review this article: How to restore PGO files from a backup

To backup the .PGO files, the QlikView Server Service will need to be stopped on all nodes so that QVS.exe will not have a file lock on the .PGO files.

It is recommended to put this back-up on a separate drive from the originals and to label the back-up with the date that the back-up was made.

On QlikView Server/Publisher, the CAL assignment information is stored in two locations. The files that need to be backed from both locations are:

  1. The Root document folder.
The location of this folder is defined in the QMC > System > Setup > QlikView Server > Folders tab > Root folder.
    • BorrowedCalDat.pgo
    • CalData.pgo
    • IniData.pgo
    • ServerCounters.pgo
    • TicketData.pgo
  2. The QlikTech\QlikViewServer folder.
    By default, located in
    %ProgramData%\QlikTech\QlikViewServer
    • BorrowedCalData.pgo
    • CalData.pgo
    • IniData.pgo
    • ServerCounters.pgo
    • TicketData.pgo
    • FUL.dat
