How to troubleshoot and resolve Qlik NPrinting Emails not sending.

  • NPrinting test email fails with "Email not sent" test message error
  • NPrinting publish task email fail for some users with "No email will be sent" error
  • Email delivery errors in the Scheduler.log
  • The recipient does not receive mail despite working test email and no scheduler.log errors.

Environment

Resolution

Take the following steps to ensure the email is sent successfully from the NPrinting server:

  • NPrinting Email Settings: "Email not sent" test message error: (NOTE: NPrinting is NOT an email server. It is an email client similar to other email clients: Outlook, Gmail etc. Therefore please consult your Email Server administrator for the correct SMTP settings to use with NPrinting email settings.)

    1. Ensure the NPrinting SMTP settings in the NP Web Console are configured correctly: Configuring SMTP server
    2. The email server is configured to allow relaying/white-listing of internal and target external email addresses as well as the NPrinting "From" email similar to below:

  • No email will be sent error:
    1. Assign NPrinting Security Role to NPrinting Users:
      • Check the user added to the publish task has at least "one" enabled NPrinting Security Role assigned.
      • View the following link for NPrinting User Security Management: Managing roles

Note:

  • The NPrinting Security 'User' role is not enabled by default in older versions of NPrinting. Please enable this role before assigning any NPrinting users to it.
  • Note: the Developer role does not have authorization to receive email as defined by this role's default configuration.)

In the example below, NPrinting users to receive emails are:

  • Newsstand User
  • User

Configuration Steps in the NPrinting Web Console:

  1. Go to the Admin Panel
  2. Open Users
  3. Open Roles
  4. Add Users as desired

    Fig 1Fig 1

  5. Click Update User Roles

Publish Task Configuration:

  • Ensure the following is performed in the Publish Task, which contains the report to deliver to the users with the assigned NPrinting Security Roles:

  1. Ensure the Report in the report task is enabled for email.
  2. In the Users/Groups section of the task, add the users with the correct roles to the task.
  3. Ensure the Destination is set to send an email to the specific users or all users.
  4. Run the task manually or schedule a trigger to run the task to send reports to the correctly configured NPrinting users.

NPrinting Upgrade to resolve older known issues

  • Upgrade to the latest release of NPrinting 19.x.x (or higher) to ensure that the email server administrator allows relaying and delivery of emails from the NPrinting server

Other considerations:

Email not sent if:

Clustered email server:

  • If the email server is a cluster node ie: NETSCALAR, you must point to a single cluster node in the cluster and not the primary cluster address to ensure email delivery works as expected

Many SMTP servers have anti-spam rules. Check the following on the target SMTP server:

  • add the NP sender to a white list
  • add the NP server IP address to a white list
  • If there is a limited amount of email messages that is possible to send in a specific amount of time, this value will need to be increased on the SMTP server
  • Check the maximum number of allowed messages parameters. This value must be increased if these parameters are throttling with a maximum allowable messages limit
  • Check the maximum allowed message size parameters. If there is an attachment size limit, this may need to be increased on your email server to accommodate the size of the NP files being generated and delivered.
  • Check that the SMTP server for any other anti-spam settings that may be throttling messages coming from the NP server
  • Check that the SMTP server is allowing 'relaying' of emails from the NP server

Causes:

  • NPrinting Email SMTP settings not configured correctly
  • Correct Roles not assigned
  • Publish Task Configuration incomplete
  • Email message size to large for allowed limits on your email server
  • External and internal email addresses not allowed to be relayed/delivered from the required NPrinting Server through the designated SMTP email server
  • Clustered email servers not supported
  • Anti Spam and file size settings
  • Possible bug if using NP 17.6. If using this version of NPrinting, you may upgrade to the latest release of NPrinting and select the NP admin>Email setting option "Disable certificate validation"
  • NPrinting Recipient User filters correctly results in no data for that user
  • NPrinting Condition applied to the NPrinting Report or Publish Task evaluates to 'False'
