With the correct Publisher license, QlikView allows multiple Distribution Services to be added to the system without clustering them.

Requirements:

  • A Publisher License with the LEF tag NUMBER_OF_XS;NUMBER;;  Where NUMBER is the amount of QDS nodes required.
  • A domain user to run the QlikView services on every machine is available OR Certificate Trust being used between services
  • A Network-Share that is available for the Distribution Services and the Management Service
  • Correct Ports open between servers. See the official Qlik Help for details.

Without the correct LEF tag, adding the Distribution Service fails with Can not add more distribution services, you only have 1 in your license

Environment:

Add the Service

In the QlikView Management Console, navigate to System > Setup > Distribution Service
Do not configure the currently added QDS@SERVERNAME, but click the green + in the top right corner.

Configure the Service

  1. Navigate to the new QDS@SERVERNAME instance in the QMC
  2. It may currently show as not being contactable
  3. Click on the General tab
  4. Configure a share that both the Management Service and Distribution Service can access
  5. Click Apply
  6. Confirm the need for a service restart
  7. Restart the Distribution Service on the new node

All licensing will have been automatically taken care of.
